hello…

Hello Friends and thank you for stopping by blog!! I thought it would only be appropriate for my first entry to be a little bit about me and what KP Creates is all about.

First off, my name is Kristen Perreault and I am a wife, mother of boys, artist, photographer, quilter, hoarder of fabric, lover of all things colorful and creative. How’s that for a description in a nutshell? I was about to say that I currently live in Winter Park, FL but there is really no “currently” about that statement. My husband and I moved into our forever home 14 years ago and we have no plans on leaving. I live here with my husband, four boys, dog and a cat. It’s a pretty full house but we love it!!

I have had a deep love for all things creative throughout my life. When I was younger, I could always be found coloring, making jewelry, painting, scrapbooking or filling in the margins on every notebook I had with endless doodles and this didn’t stop as I got older. I originally wanted to pursue a career in the Arts, specifically Graphic Design. However, I ended up settling for a much more “practical” degree in Communication. Looking back I wish I would have taken my creativity more seriously but on the plus side my Communication Degree ultimately led me to being a High School teacher and it’s through that job that I met my now husband.

I taught high school for a few years after getting married before Jamie and I decided to have children and all throughout that time I found different ways to express and use my creativity. I stayed home after having children and I found that my creative time was more limited. Pulling paint out while our four small boys were running around just wasn’t feasible for me any more. So while I continued to draw and doodle I also fell in love with quilting and fabric. And when I say I fell, I mean I fell hard... It quickly became a great source of joy in my life and I haven’t looked back since. Today there is rarely a day that doesn’t go by that I am not either dreaming up a new project, working on a current project, or pulling fabric for something new. I still paint on occasion, carry my camera with me often and more recently I have picked up a sketchbook again. What I have since come to realize is that being creative and taking time to create is not only what I enjoy but very much a part of who I am as a person. Aside from my family, being surrounded by all things creative and colorful truly fills me up and brings me so much joy!
