working on WIPS
Every time January rolls around and the New Year comes knocking I talk a big talk about checking more quilts off of my WIP list. I love the idea of getting my WIP list down and almost finished. I have a few projects that I have planned to keep working on long term but there are also some on there that would be so nice to finish up. However, January comes and goes and new shiny projects end up taking priority. I have learned over the years that even if I pull fabric for a project, I should not cut it up until I am ready to sew it. I sometimes change my mind about the fabric or the project is just not as exciting any more. And while I like having projects just to sew whenever I am ready, working on projects as I feel inspired is really best for me. Have any of you figured out some sewing patterns/tendencies of your own over the years? Is it better for you to have lots of projects going at once? Cut the fabric as you want to sew and finish the project one at a time? I’m always interested in how others work :)
That being said, I still want to finish up some of the projects on my list. I started 2022 with 11 WIPs, 10 that need piecing and one that needs hand quilting and then binding. And while I know that fun new projects will come up, I do plan on trying to tackle a few of these older projects. The idea of having them ready to give as gifts or in our home to love is just so appealing right now. When I looked at my list, bright happy fabrics won for the first project to tackle. I cut these gorgeous fabrics when I was retreating at Stitch Supply Co back in 2019, so it was way past time to work on this project.
I used the AccuQuilt machine in the retreat center to cut these fabrics out. It made quick work for the 20 Fat Quarters that I chose for this project. I based the majority of the pull on the Menagerie Fabric by Rifle Paper Co.
Once I started sewing it didn’t take long for the blocks to come together. I probably spent more time trying to decide on layout. I seriously can’t wait to get this in the mail to my dear friend Kait for quilting. I know she will work her magic on it and it will be fun to finish the binding and snuggle up under it!!
